Music before Medicine
A collaboration with Arman Nouri, creator of Solfi and host of Sound and Solidarity. This collaboration is named after the saying 樂先藥后/music before medicine.
These gatherings are inspired by the traditional Chinese character for medicine 藥, comprised of the words plant and music. They feature a meditative tea, a seasonal meal, explorations of silence and listening, and a collective music listening session in an intimate setting, with each participant offering up a track for listening and discussion.
Past sessions have covered the themes of anger and transformation, spaciousness and transitions, silence during a season of grief and most recently silence as a way to drop into deeper connection and intimacy. Each journey of Music Before Medicine has been created and held by those participating and the tracks and parts of themselves they share. The deep listening made possible by presence and nourishment.
